The mission of FCM is an unconditional and universal human outreach mission program to provide free concerts, workshops, masterclasses, and presentations of traditional and contemporary chamber music of enduring quality for all people to enjoy captivating experiences by exceptional musicians in nationally and internationally acclaimed ensembles that dramatize the power of human expression in music.

 

FCM was founded and continues to be a volunteer organization for which members perform all activities associated with concert selection, scheduling, production, and promotion.

  

Because the main objective is to increase the communication, understanding, and participation of the broad community in music and the arts, all FCM events are open to everyone, free of charge, and aim to inspire, to inform, and to entertain. Our approach to increase awareness and education is active outreach programming in which each visiting ensemble or musician is contracted to perform a concert together with one or more extra concert outreach events, such as a presentation or workshop at a local school where the guest musician(s), and the participating students, present themselves and their music to elicit responses to encourage engagement, questions, discussion, and sharing of human communication through the musical arts.

 

The FCM outreach program operates within several contexts:  

 

• First, extra concert events are arranged in the community including presentations and masterclasses in local schools, churches, and libraries.  

 

• A second context is concerts and other outreach events in a variety of venues, such as First Presbyterian Church, the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center, and Rudder Theatre, to reach diverse populations in all age categories. 

 

• A third milieu is collaboration with other organizations, such as Concerts on Carter Creek, Department of Performance Studies at TAMU, and The Academy of the Visual and Performing Arts to present at diverse musical events such as the Eden-Stell Guitar Duo in collaboration with the TAMU Guitar Festival at Rudder Theatre on October 14, 2016.

 

FCM founders, including Thyra and Gilbert Plass, believed that learning from our cultural heritage is important for human development and education, so they provided opportunities in our community for experiencing the intimate and charged atmosphere of chamber music concerts.  Their greatest hope was that their gift and vision be accepted.
